What is ERP and why it is good for your business

ERP Singapore for businesses

Technology is evolving, and using technology in your business should be the next step if you are a brick and mortar shop. We do not mean using the cashier, but in your operations, your planning and your consolidation of your business.

If you are looking for an ERP or enterprise app for your company, you should consider MSC Consulting ERP Solutions Singapore. They offer a wide variety of software for your company’s operations and is rated one of the top in Singapore. You should check them out above.

Everyone knows that ERP benefits your business, but how exactly does it benefit?

Workwisellc shares more:

“Efficiency. An ERP solution eliminates repetitive processes and greatly reduces the need to manually enter information. The system will also streamline business processes and make it easier and more efficient for companies to collect data, no matter what department they’re working in.” Read more here!

Processes such as counting stock repeatedly or writing down the details of your stock on pieces of paper should be an activity of the past. This is because such information can get lost if stored on paper. But if it is input onto a form or a platform on your desktop, it would at least be retrievable anytime, anywhere. Even better if it is on the cloud, where you can collaborate with your team-members without having to meet up in office. This will come in handy if you are meeting on off days, or if one member is overseas but an emergency meeting needs to be called.

While many know that ERP generally aims to improve your productivity, not many realize another equally important aspect, which is that they lay out information about your company and it will be easier to pinpoint which aspect is not doing well.

Anita Ann Babu writes:

ERP systems can automate and streamline daily processes, freeing up your employees’ time to do things that actually generate revenue. For example, software can automatically tie sales orders to the accounting system, or run reports without the need for complicated spreadsheets.” Read more here!

When your staff have more free time, they spend less time on menial tasks and have more time to pore over the data that is now collected on your business. Also, from this data they can see if they are underperforming on certain areas and how to improve them. This way, they can take charge and be more accountable of what they are doing, and be more responsible over their own performance.

Lastly, before you decide to jump on the ERP bandwagon, you need to consider what type of business you are. If are a medium to large sized company, it makes sense to use regular ERP software that is able to manage large amounts of information and generate the data you put in.

Select Hub writes:

“This is by far the biggest disadvantage to ERP software. The up-front cost of the entire implementation process can be prohibitively high, especially for small-to-medium-sized businesses. This includes the full process of planning, testing, configuring and customizing the software as well as the cost of actual implementation.” Read more here!

Hence, you should look for a cheaper ERP alternative if you are simply a smaller company that cannot afford the upfront cost of using one. Don’t worry as there are definitely cheaper alternatives created for smaller companies; you do not need to discard ERP and go back to using Microsoft Excel. With the improvement of technology, small companies are not left behind as well.

Having an ERP for your business is simply the first step. You would still need to diligently input and populate the data in order for the results to be accurate. Only when it is accurate then you can accurately assess the strengths and weaknesses of your company.

Things to Consider When Developing a Mobile App

microsoft dynamics mobile apps

Before developing an app, it is crucial for you to determine your expectations. There is so much that can be included in an app such as login using social media sites. However, when initially developing your app, you need to start with the primary items. When a consumer comes across your app, their first question would probably be, “what is this app associated with?”. You need to make sure your motive of developing the app is the first thing clients find. You need to research on what the end user expects so that you can create an app you would enjoy using if you were in your potential clients’ shoes.

In this article on buildfire.com, the author discusses app development and how one can do it with coding.

Critical lessons on App development

“You have a great app idea. It’s a great premise, but how will you get it to market? As you know, there’s a lot more to creating an app than just thinking of the idea. So, what’s the first step? You’d like to create it yourself, but you don’t even know how to code. Is it even possible to design your own app if you lack the basics of coding? Here’s the honest truth: it’s going to be hard, but you can…” read more here

Before you start developing the app, it is essential to have a plan. Once you have an idea what you expect from the app, coding becomes much more comfortable. Besides the function of the app, you need to consider the architecture. What language will you use? Java is the primary language used for Android apps. Apple iOS software uses Objective-C or Swift. This is why it is essential to plan ahead. This way you can be more strategic when developing the app.

In this article, David Gewirtz discusses how one can develop an app with no programming skill and with little money.

Essential steps to take in app development

I can’t tell you how many letters I get from readers asking how to break into the mobile app business. Most tell me they have no software experience, little cash, and expect to make a bajillion dollars. As I’ve written before, lack of experience, skill, and money is not a formula for software success. But as many of you have told me in no uncertain terms, who am I to insist that you can’t dream? read more here

Android and Apple are the biggest players in the industry. If you develop an app, you will need to sign up as a developer with either of the two to get approval. It is only with their consent that you can have your app in their stores. It is essential to have this in mind as you develop your app. Developing an app needs time and effort. Before you get it right, you will fail a couple of times. However, this also guarantees that whatever you get right with work well.

In this article, Nicholas Wright discusses coding and some of its challenges.

Challenges faced in app development

“How do you build a mobile app? This is the very question I myself had 13 months ago. I answered the question by hiring the relevant domain experts, and in the process created AppInstruct’s Online Course — designed to teach how to make an app to all of us who have an app idea. This post begins a series here on the Upwork blog, where we’ll explore both the technology and business aspects…” read more here

Before you commit yourself to learn coding, you need to appreciate the effort and time required to understand it. This is especially true if you have no history as a developer. You will need to learn how to merge the mathematical sequence with logic. The interface of your mobile app also needs to be user-friendly. Remember how you see the app on the web is different from how it appears on a mobile phone. It is possible to have a great app, but if the interface does not encourage consumer engagement, all your work would have been in vain.

Developing an app is a decision that needs to be taken seriously. You need to be ready to do the work if you are to be successful at it. It will help if you put yourself in the shoes of the user when developing the app. By following all the necessary steps, you will be able to make a mobile app and possibly earn from it through sales in the Apple and Android Stores.

Steps to a Better ERP Solution for Your Business

Some companies have hesitated to adopt other business solutions. This is because what they are using now is either working well, or they are not ready to invest in another system. Unfortunately, if your business solution is not working as effectively as it once did, you may need to decide if it is time for a better Enterprise Resource Planning system (ERP).

Examine the limitations of your current system

Before looking at the financial implications of acquiring a better ERP system, it is important to look at the limitations of your current system to your company. If you bought the system when your business was still small, how adaptive has the system been to your company’s growth? If your client base has widened, or if you have entered new markets, does the system capture the additional information? If the growth is too fast for your system, you need a better ERP solution.

What solutions is the current system offering?

It is easy to say you presently do not need a better ERP solution because what you have is working. However, before writing off an alternative system, you need to compare the business solutions. This way, you will know what you are missing from the current system. For example, besides providing a financial solution, what other components of your business can use the system? How does this system help the human resource department? Can you collect data of your clients to help you when coming up with a marketing strategy?

Can the system be integrated with others?

Having multiple systems can be overwhelming, especially for Directors. This is because every aspect of the business needs updating. It is difficult to see the relationship between the different components of the company when you are not using one system that shows a link in the operations of the various departments.

For example, if your clients place orders online, how many of these orders translate to sales? How many goods are returned? How does this affect the financial standing of the business? If your current system is inefficient, you may need a better system to manage your business.

Can you easily look at future projections?

Running a business involves making informed decisions promptly to avoid losses. Some businesses fail because entrepreneurs took too long to take steps to save the company. If your current business solution does not provide you with adequate information to project growth, a better ERP system is required.

Is access to the system on-premises or in the cloud?

Easy access to information is essential, especially in today’s global economy. Many businesspeople travel to various countries when seeking new markets or products. Some companies have become international after opening branches in other nations. Directors and entrepreneurs use modern ERP systems because they can access data from anywhere.

If your current system keeps you in the dark when you are away, you should think about investing in a business solution that is deployed in the cloud. This will help you to take the necessary steps to solve problems that may arise in your absence.

If you are torn between getting a new system or retaining the current one, it is important to look at the gains of the new system over the limitations of the system currently in use. If the benefits outweigh the cost, it will be a worthwhile investment. Remember, an excellent ERP system will spur growth.

A Look at the Features of Microsoft Dynamics 365

Microsoft Dynamics 365 was released in April 2018. It has been declared as the game changer of how the modern business processes work in the world. It is basically a suite of applications, each designed to target a sector. Previously, Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and Customer Relationship Management (CRM) worked in the form of two separate entities with no mode of communication between them. The tech savvy think tanks of Microsoft decided to incorporate these two together into a super software that came to be known as the Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central.

Ever since its release, the software has been received by the business community with open arms. It has a real-time user interface that is easy to use, and the overall package is not expensive. So small scale to medium businesses that couldn’t afford software’s such as ERP, have also been able to implement Microsoft Dynamics 365.

Technology and Innovation in Singapore

Singapore is a rich country affluent with international businesses that owe much to its growing GDP. The country offers a very flexible tax paying environment and the government is applauded for being very honest and helpful. This has always favored Singapore in attracting more international investments. The businesses are paid special importance and young entrepreneurs are encouraged to put up small companies. The aim of Singapore is to improve more in every field and grow revenue from businesses.

Innovation is key to expanding such businesses and companies. There is always a better tool in the market that can help systemize business processes. Singapore has always been very open to adopting such software’s and tools into its companies and a growing revenue is the successful result.  Thus, the adoption of Microsoft Dynamics 365 has been welcomed with open arms by businesses in the country.

Microsoft Dynamics 365 at Work

The software is a very comprehensive tool that adheres all the important applications of a business and streamlines them into one super platform. The features such as accounts, finance, customer relations, sales and inventory are now all seen, with transparency into one system. It’s a cloud-based system that can be viewed and dealt with at any time and place.

The nature of the software is very user friendly that can be used by any user and does not require special training. There is a very long and comprehensive customization involved, where the user molds the system according to his requirements. A proper customization ensures that all the workflow is efficient and according to the demand of the business. The sale leads are paid a lot of importance and bettered with advice on how the ones that are lagging, could be improved.

The operations performed by Microsoft Dynamics 365 have improved capabilities. Not to mention the extensive set of customer relation operations, which are constantly modified, checked and automated. Like all software’s, the users have faced a few glitches in the use of the application but with think tanks such as Microsoft, most of these problems have been resolved and systems keeps up to date.

Things to Do After an Inventory Check

Fortunately, stock take apps have simplified the process of taking inventory for all businesses. However, just because you can see the information at any time does not mean you forget the steps you would have taken had you tallied the inventory manually. The stock you sell and what is left behind tells every business person something. The stock shows the state of the business. At a glance, a professional can determine if the company has sufficient cash flow or if most of the capital is tied in stock. If you are a business owner or work in stock taking and inventory, doing research on improving your operating processes is important and stock take apps like the one here: https://orangekloud.com/stock-inventory-app/ should be what you take a look at.

Verify that the information captured by the app is accurate

Although stock take apps are more accurate than manual systems, they still rely on human input, primarily if the client did not shop online. Sometimes one may input the information wrongly or fail to record the sale as required. After a specific period, it is best to take an inventory to confirm that the available records are right and that the decisions made against the information available were made in the best interest of the business.

Carry out an audit of the income against the items sold

It is easy to be caught up in a cycle of buying and selling products without genuinely evaluating the actual state of the business. A business having sufficient cash flow does not mean it is making a profit. It is crucial for the company to confirm if the gains outweigh the operating costs. Choosing to do this seasonally will help you determine if the price at which you are selling the products is right or if it should be revised upwards. This audit will also assist in providing a guide on how to handle slow-selling products that need to be sold and replaced with better ones.

Generate inventory reports

All businesses have seasons when things are going well, and times when sales are low. It is important for business owners to plan for the low seasons. It would be unfortunate if all the financial capital is tied up in stock. Failure to keep track of expenses also finds some businesses flat-footed when things go wrong. It is vital for business owners to remember there are costs, such as wages and rent which need to be paid, whether the business is doing well or not. Monthly reports will help entrepreneurs and managers to appreciate all that happens in the company and the necessary decisions to be made.

Identify high-risk areas

The stock take app will show you high-risk areas. For example, if the app is linked from the retail point of the business, you can identify if clients complete the transactions or if they give up before purchasing anything. In this case, the challenge might be the products, the price or the layout of the site. If the marketing strategy does not seem to yield the expected results, the problem might be the target population or the marketing style used. Plenty of information can be got from the stock status and report. This information can be used to keep the business from failing or to help it grow faster than anticipated.

A stock take app is a vital tool for all businesses. It can be used to identify some of the things that are being taken for granted, yet clients consider it very important. It is possible for every business to become a household name. However, for this to happen, the company needs to be looked at as a whole, instead of independent parts of a whole.

Advantages of CCTV Analysis in Retail Setup

Theft is a biggest issue in the retail stores that impact the success of any retail stores or showrooms. No matter how much efforts you make to protect your retail outlet, there is always a potential problem related to theft.

Check out ATT Systems CCTV Video Analytics for a good solution today.

Problem of retail theft and loss can be prevented through retail security system. Security cameras play a crucial role in stepping up the security systems in retail outlets. If you are an owner of a retail business then you must look into the benefits of installing security cameras.

Use video surveillance for loss prevention
The loss of inventories due to theft is the primary concern for retail stores these days. A security camera is a solution to cut down the inventory and will automatically help in evading negative financial impact on your business. It will not only help to track down the thief but also record the intention or attempt made by any person before it is actually done.

Constant surveillance
Security camera gives you 24/7 facility. Even if you are not there in the store or if you are miles away you would be able to monitor your retail store without any extra effort. Data gathered in 2015 showed that almost 35.5% of inventory lost is due to theft. Video surveillance also keeps track of dishonest employee. Substantial evidence generated from the CCTV can be used as evidence for theft accusation.

Improves customer service
Happy customers make your business grow one step ahead of what others are striving for. Ensuring that customers are having pleasurable experience while shopping plays huge part in your success. It ensures that your employees are fulfilling all guidelines in serving customers. Security camera not only helps in deterring theft, but it has also been proved to be beneficial for business growth.

Digital Storage
Unlike other security devices, CCTV video analytics helps in storing data in digital video recorders (DVRs) and network video recorders (NVRs), making it easier to retrieve data during times of need.

Helps in improving the layout of store
Lastly, you can use video cameras to design your store and improve the layout. It helps to track the shopper’s shopping pattern and on the basis of which you can target customers’ need and strategize your store layout.

To avoid cost, one must take all the possible efforts before installing security cameras in retail stores. Nowadays, market offers great advanced technology at the lowest possible rates.

Alternative solutions to queue problems

Queues are one of the things that people hate the most but it is also one thing that people can’t avoid. Almost everywhere, we encounter queues: at the mall, restaurants, cafes, grocery stores, and even comfort rooms have queues. People may hate it but it is actually something that makes things more organized and systematized. Without it, places might be messy, transactions might be out of order, and people might be arguing and complaining about getting the service first.  That is why queue management is important and must be taken into consideration by establishments. While a long queue not only has impact on business profits, it also affects customer’s individual experiences. Many companies have also explored the using of technology to come out with commercial queue solutions to help businesses overcome this problem. After all, a happier customer who queue less, would mean more purchases and in turn profits for the business.

Anna Arwidi will tell us more about queue management and its impact on customer preferences.

Queue management, and its impact on customer preference (and profitability)

Nobody enjoys a queue. At best, we regard them as a necessary evil. At worst, they can be the difference between a sale and an abandoned shopping basket (with customer dissatisfaction guaranteed). In addition to my obvious professional interest, studying how retailers manage the queues in their stores has become something of a personal obsession!

When in-store queues can be one of the most negatively impactful aspects of the retail customer experience (and have a significant impact on sales, as research has previously pointed out) it’s surprising that more retailers aren’t using technology to better monitor and manage the queues in their stores, and in doing so enhance the retail customer experience.

I have three local stores where I can pick up groceries. All have slightly different propositions (and associated store designs): one is a no frills, ‘stack them high, sell them cheap’ type of place; the second more upmarket with lots of fresh food and an in-store bakery; and the third somewhere between the two with a more limited but specialist range than can throw up surprises and cooking inspiration. In addition to their different offerings, each has its own approach to the check-out area and the management of the inevitable queues. And I’ve found that my choice of store is directly influenced by the experience of the queue (and my willingness to endure it, balanced against what I want or need to buy). Read more here.

Using technology could really be effective in an establishment’s queue management system. A said earlier, this kind of queue management system monitor queue behaviour in real-time, and provide data on how many people are standing in a queue per period, and for how long. In this way, there is an easier way to determine things and it is good that the customers too are aware of these pieces of information.

Parks are also one of the places where we could see queues.  Christy Cabby will give us an example which is the water parks at the Walt Disney World.

Water Parks at Walt Disney World Testing Virtual Ride Queue System

We have very exciting news for the water park fans out there.  The water parks at Walt Disney World currently do not offer FastPass+ selections or any other means of reserving a spot in line other than waiting in the sun in most cases.  We have learned that Disney is currently testing a virtual ride queue system that would allow guests to continue playing and enjoying other areas of the park and then notify them when they should return the queue for a much shorter wait.  This would almost work similar to a pager system where you will be notified when you should report back.  This is different from FastPass+ in that you won’t pre-select certain times, you will get added to the system when you venture to the attraction.

The system is expected to be available for guests to try out on April 7th.  This should be a favorable change for guests since this will reduce the amount of time that they spend waiting in lines and allow them to go and enjoy swimming, lounging or hanging in the shade until it is time.  The technology will only be launched on certain attractions to start out.  We haven’t confirmed if it is expected to roll out to all attractions and what that timeline would be. Read more here.

Great! People visiting the water parks at Walt Disney World wouldn’t experience the hassles of waiting in line anymore.  So the virtual ride queue system will now allow guests to continue playing and enjoying other areas of the park and then notify them when they already have to return to the queue.

Another problem experienced is traffic queues. So Stevenmuir wil give us solutions to traffic queues.

Solutions to traffic queues

I was impressed with this image from a story on Aucklands traffic congestion which suggested Aucklanders spend 4 weeks a year stuck in traffic.

It’s a great perspective with the queued traffic snarling to a standstill while the lone cyclist has plenty of space to zoom along having a great time. I do have to ask myself the question ‘why aren’t there more people on that cyclepath’? Cycling seems like the perfect solution to me, but there’s obviously a lot of people very grumpy about being inconvenienced by construction of our new cycleways who are not so enthusiastic about cycling. A couple of examples are the irate business owners complaining to Christchurch Council and the dairy owner on Colombo St.

Over the years I’ve noticed some of these stories focus on public transport as the solution (which is a good thing) but some never  mention cycling as a practical solution. Why don’t frustrated motorists get on a bike more often? If they live far away, get on an electric bike! If it’s occasionally raining, put on a jacket! It’s not that hard! Read more here.

It is true that the road is one of the places where we could see the longest queues. There are already too many cars being driven on the road day by day and we couldn’t really avoid it since we have to travel and do our own businesses around town. However, Stevenmuir has proposed one possible solution to this – cycling. Why not? It would not just lessen the traffic on the road; it would also make your healthier. So there are really many ways where we could make manage queues. We should just think of the something that could benefit everyone, especially something that could make things convenient for the customers.
